Tumbleweek Hawk

The Lament of Tumbleweed Hawk

Jesse LaMonaca and the Dime Novels are poised to release their second record, the Lament of Tumbleweed Hawk. The music is both eclectic and focused, subtle and potent. At moments it is driving early Motown soul, with Stax era horn stabs and a deep pocket. At other points it explores Americana’s roots with sighing trumpets and whispering violins. The band’s seasoned musicians can seamlessly move between genres with the tightness of a road tested soul unit and the loose feeling of a Friday night dive bar. But the key to this album is Jesse LaMonaca’s powerful vocal delivery. He tests his range and delivers with a supple falsetto. He can move from a delicate hush to a robust sandpaper growl. He can weave a story, plead for your heart and demand your attention. This album conjures elements of so many sections of great American Music, there are homages to blues, ragtime, rock, soul and folk, yet the band finds itself comfortably traversing all these different terrains, creating something all their own.
